Revealing the beauty and enduring fascination of the distinctive Malaysian women's kebaya, the exhibition will be shown for the first and only time in Australia at the Immigration Museum, Old Customs House, 400 Flinders Street, Melbourne.
From its beginnings in Peranakan Straits Chinese communities in the 1800s, the kebaya has evolved into a modern-day Malaysian fashion icon.
Nyonya Kebaya draws on one of the world's largest collections of historic and contemporary kebaya, gathered by the late wife of Malaysia's Prime Minister, and presents the history and evolution of this stunning garment.
The exhibition, organized by Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia (Penyayang) in association with the Victoria Museum, will run from May 4, 2007 to September 9, 2007.
