Government is working to strike a pact with Mexico, so that it is able to export the excess of textile products in the industrial free zone parks.
Dominican Republic hopes to restructure textile industry in order to benefit from the accumulation of origin rules. Foreign Relations (Serex) Minister Carlos Morales stated, "We are working with the government of Mexico in the access to the benefits of that accumulation of origin rules.”
Morales stressed that Serex was aggressively trying to ensure complete implementation of the FTA between the US, Central America and the Dominican Republic.
He added, "That trade instrument constitutes a fundamental tool for attracting investments from any part of the world to Dominican Republic and at the same time allows our productive sectors a permanent and privileged access of goods and services with reduction of tariffs and other non-tariff restrictions."
