Chennai Handloom expo offers Ahimsa silk fashion

Poompuhar showroom at Anna Salai, Chennai, is currently hosting a 'Handlooms of India' exhibition featuring textile handicrafts created by over 20-25 artisans from 12 states of the country.

The event, inaugurated Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N Palanisamy, offers wide range of 'Ahimsa Silk' sarees, shawls, scarves, apparel and accessories.

Kalamkari printed cotton saris, dress materials and hand-embroidered kurtas, both in cotton and silk are rapidly gaining popularity.

Cotton sarees from Dharwad and West Bengal, Lucknow chikan work and Punjab phulkari handlooms captured the hearts of the consumers.

There is also enough choice for tiny-tots and children. From lehenga-choli to chikan kurtas, the kids wear segment presents traditional outfits in modern styles.
