Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Chairperson Kumud Joshi launched saris woven by weavers of Anakaputhur using banana and other natural fibres.

KVIC head was very impressed, and she encouraged the initiatives of weavers who use natural fibres in their designs. Joshi also added that the Commission would seek information about advanced technology from Philippines, where natural fibre saris are produced.

Kumud Joshi visited C Sekhar, the President of Anakaputhur Jute Weavers Association (AJWA).

Anakaputhur, a town in Kancheepuram district in Tamil Nadu used to be a thriving handloom centre. The State and Central Governments need to shift their attention beyond handloom centres of Kancheepuram and Erode to make this place once again happening.

Members of the AJWA requested the KVIC head to pay heed to the proposal of 'Jute Weavers Village' recommended by the Union Ministry of Textiles was pending with the State Government.
