Total retail sales of consumer goods shoot up in April

In April, the total retail sales of consumer goods reached 667.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 15.5 percent.
In terms of different regions, the retail sales of consumer goods in urban areas was 452.2 billion yuan, rose by 16.0 percent over the same period of the previous year; that of retail sales at and below the county level achieved 215.1 billion yuan, up by 14.6 percent.
In terms of different industries, the retail sales of wholesale and retail trades was 566 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 15.3 percent; that of hotels and catering services was 89.7 billion yuan, up by 18.4 percent; that of other industries was 11.6 billion yuan, up by 8.2 percent.
In terms of different commodity categories, the retail sales above designated size of wholesale and retail trades, clothing and utilized commodities increased 22.2, 22.3 and 25.0 percent respectively. Of which, the retail sales for grain and clothing, shoes, hats and textiles was up by 22.3 percent; that of furniture was up by 53.3 percent; that of cosmetics jumped by 24.7 percent; that of gold, silver, and jewelry rose by 30.8 percent.
The accumulated total retail sales of consumer goods from January to April reached 2786 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 15.1 percent.
