German president's visit to enhance diplomatic relation

A German delegation including President Horst Kohler and his wife, the foreign and economic ministers, President of the Germany-ASEAN Parliamentarians Friendship Committee, members of the Budgetary Committee, and president of the federal court are on an official visit to Vietnam from May 21 to 23.
This visit made by the German President on the invitation of his counterpart Nguyen Minh Triet will strengthen the diplomatic relation between the two countries.
Vietnam and Germany since 1990, have inked deals to create a platform for economic co-operation including agreements on double taxation, encouraging investments and protection on navigation and aviation.
Bilateral trade between the two countries reached US$2 billion last year.
Vietnam exports garments, footwear among other products to Germany. In turn imports of equipment, raw materials, chemical substances, fibres and few more are done to the country.
Statistics of Ministry of Planning and Investment reveals that Germany has invested US $341 million in 71 projects in Vietnam.
