Domestic textile & clothing sales boost this year

Driven by strong consumption in domestic market and the steady increase in exports, China has maintained rapid growth in textile and garment production. The boost of major products by above scale textile enterprises in the first quarter is generally higher than the same period last year.
Yarn output in the first quarter this year, reached 4.171 million tons with a rise of 21.6 percent and clothing production marked 4.084 billion pieces, up 20.52 percent.
Chemical fiber output achieved 5.374 million tons, 16.9 percent over the same period last year. Polyester output registered 2.526 million tons, an augment of 12.5 percent. Cloth yield scored 10.53 billion meters, improving 8.14 percent.
Meanwhile, the robust domestic market demand has expanded the domestic market share of textile and garment. In January-February, above scale textile enterprises realized a sales value of 375.97 billion yuan, 24.1 percent more than the same period of 2006. Domestic sales earned 282.57 billion yuan, accounting for 75.16 percent of the total sales value.
