According to the latest statistics released on May 22, textile export slips by 14 percent in the month of April against March and showed a minor decrease of 0.08 percent to $847 million, as against $848 million during the same month previous year.
A rise of six percent is seen in first ten months (July-April) of current financial year as against the corresponding period previous year.
The country exported textile products worth $8.86 billion during July-April 2006-07 against $8.35 billion during the same period a year before.
The break-up of export of textile products show that the export of raw cotton decreased by 13.82 percent, cotton cloth decreased to by 6.61 percent, bed wear continued a negative growth with four percent down, and cotton carded declined by 17 percent in July-April of 2006-07 against the same period of previous year.
But there is a brighter side also. Export of knitwear posted a growth of 14 percent, readymade garments increased by 6.81 percent, towel grew by 2.58 percent.
The export of made-up articles (excluding towels, bed wear) increased by nine percent, cotton yarn posted a growth of 4.67 percent and art, silk and synthetic textile exports were up by 144 percent and other textile materials were up by 17.24 percent during July-April of 2006-07.
