ARMY INSTITUTE OF FASHION AND DESIGN (AIFD) was established in 2004 under agies of Army Welfare Education Society (AWES). This is the only Fashion Institute set up by Army under AWES which also has several other institutes in the areas of Management, Engineering, Dental, IT and Hotel Management.

Army Institute of Fashion and Design is established to serve its students and the Industry through the provision of excellent education and training programs on a regional and international basis.

AIFD offers two Post Graduate diploma autonomous courses on Fashion Technology and Apparel Merchandising and Logistics Management and one B.Sc, Fashion & Apparel Design course which is affiliated to Bangalore University.

AIFD is also established to provide technical and professional education that develops students for Leadership, Entrepreneurship and employment. Institute is planning to start a new Post Graduate Diploma course in the area of Fashion & Retailing. Bangalore University has been approached to give recognition to these courses.

Admission for PG Diploma courses is after the basic degree. This applied diploma course will increase the value to the graduate and they can go well with the other graduate professional courses.

Admission notice is published in the month of January every year in the leading newspaper and Written Admission Test (WAT) is conducted to shortlist the students for the admission of Under Graduate courses. Personal Interview is conducted to shortlist the students for Post-Graduate courses after the WAT.

AIFD is established not only to serve and provide the technical education to the children's of Army personnel but also serves the civilians as well. At present 32% of the students strength are Civilians and 68% are from the Army background.
