Overall exports increased around 3.3 percent during July-April 2006-07 period, to reach US $13.9 billion.
However, exports dropped slightly, a 2.3 percent, in the month of April as compared to the previous month, earning about $1.497 billion or Rs90.880 billion.
Major exports in April included textile products like cotton cloth at Rs8,755 million, cotton yarn at Rs7,538 million, readymade garments at Rs6,559 million, knitwear at Rs8,550 million, madeup articles at Rs2,499 million, bedwear at Rs8,434million, towels at Rs2,679 million and art silk & synthetic textile at Rs3,588 million.
However, imports July-April, 2006-2007 went up 8.9 percent to $24.993 billion. For April 2007 imports declined 1.88 percent as compared to March to $2.573 billion.
Chief import products in April were petroleum products at Rs20,719 million, petroleum crude at Rs17,203 million, power generating machinery at Rs4,770 million and electrical machinery & apparatus Rs3,209 million.
