On Wednesday a 20 feet tall stone block wall in Angeripalayam near Tirupur collapsed, reportedly, due to continuous heavy rainfall.
Tirupur Exporter's Association (TEA), Executive Secretary, S Sakthivel, talking exclusively to Fibre2fashion, said that the approximate death toll has reached around 40, by now.
Sakthivel explained that on the other sides of this wall, there is an open-air bar, which is a common hang-out place for workers after a tiring day. Since there was 53-55mm rain the labourers as well as the passers-by took shelter near the wall.
He also revealed that the wall was built by KPK Dyeing unit and the liquor bar is owned by the Government.
The wall crashed suddenly leaving no time for the victims and many fell to the mercy of death.
