Wuhan Petrochemicals to expand ethylene project

At present, Wuhan Branch of China Petrochemical Corporation is transforming its main refinery equipments. Its annual refining capacity will be expanded from 4 million tons to 8 million tons, making preparation for the raw materials of 800,000 tons of ethylene project in the future.
In April, 800,000 tons of ethylene projects in Wuhan obtained the approval from the State Development and Reform Commission. Taking this project as a core, Wuhan, has started the plan of constructing a new chemical city in eastern region, with total investment of 14.67 billion yuan.
Upon completion of the program, Wuhan will become the first major regional integrated production base of oil refining in central China.
The project will construct 8 sets of main production devices of 800,000 tons of ethylene per year, 300,000 tons of linear low-density polyethylene per year, 300,000 tons of high density polyethylene per year, 400,000 tons of polypropylene per year.
Currently, China imports large quantity of polyethylene, ethylene, ethylene oxide and glycol.
This ethylene project and related projects will add about 4500 employment opportunities.
