Taiwan's Formosa Petrochemical Corp in Mailiao has opened a new ethylene plant on May 25 and within a week 80 percent capacity has started its operation.
This plant will boost Taiwan's annual ethylene production capacity by 1.2 million tons to 4.04 million tons. With this company's imports of petrochemical from South Korea will also decrease.
Since 2003, Formosa Petrochemical has spent more than $90 billion for increasing its production capacity and its ability to process crude oil increased by one-fifth in the past two years.
Formosa Petrochemical Corp has three crude distillation units with total daily capacity of 540,000 barrels and three ethylene plants able to produce 2.94 million tons of the petrochemical a year.
