Turnover with environmental protection products up 5%

On the occasion of the World Environment Day on 5 June 2007, the Federal Statistical Office reports that total turnover achieved with goods, construction operations and services for environmental protection in Germany amounted to about EUR 12.3 billion in 2005. Compared with the previous year, that is an increase by EUR 541 million or 5%.
About EUR 9.3 billion or 76% of the total turnover was achieved within Germany. Exports of environmental protection products accounted for EUR 3 billion, corresponding to 24% of the total turnover. These are results of a sample survey covering about 5,000 local units, corporations and institutions of the industry and the services sector in Germany.
About EUR 8.5 billion were achieved by turnover with goods for environmental protection. Its share in the total turnover (69%) was by 3 percentage points larger (+EUR 731 million) than in 2004.
Another about EUR 2.5 billion of turnover were achieved in 2005 through construction operations like the construction of sewers and landfills and the recultivation of waters. That is 20% of the total turnover in the environment sector. Compared with the previous year, turnover with construction operations was down 2.5%.
In the service areas of project management and control, planning, inspection and analysis, turnover in 2005 amounted to EUR 1.3 billion. With a share of slightly more than 10% in the total turnover, that sector stagnated when compared with 2004.
Among all environmental areas, the largest turnover with goods, construction operations and services was achieved in water protection (about EUR 4.4 billion), with construction operations in this area accounting for the largest part (EUR 2 billion).
