Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) at the Press Conference suggested that the Textile sector be split into three sections (i) Ginning, Spinning and Weaving (ii) Apparel (Knitted and Woven) & (iii) Home Textiles. The splitting into three sections will introduce inter-action between public and private sectors resulting in appreciation of problems separately and will obviously result in remedial measures resultantly increase production.

The PRGMEA President suggested that 6 percent Research and Development subsidy should continue as it has helped expansion of export premises (working area), importing / installing new high tech machines, introduction of in-house training of machine operators and frequent visits to un-explored markets abroad.

Mr. Ijaz A. Khokhar while addressing print and electronic media representatives asked for long term Textile policy, capping utility users charges for five years at current levels, increase in working hours when wages have been increased, travel support upto 2 percent export processing unit (EPU) status for garments units / exporting upto 70 percent of production and zero rated duty on import of accessories etc.

President, PRGMEA contradicted VVIPs statements that the industry was performing poorly, had low level of production and have old machines. He said that we are competitive in all respects and the present fall in exports is due to communication gap between the Government agencies and the private manufacturing sector.
