In 2006 shipments of textile machinery generally retained its strong momentum. Shipments of shuttle-less looms grew strongly while investments in draw-texturing fell significantly but still reached the third highest amount ever.

After very strong increases in 2004 and 2005 investments in circular knitting machines fell slightly but remained on a very high level.

The segment of electronic flat knitting machinery experienced a strong increase mainly as a consequence of including for the first time shipments of Chinese electronic machines in the survey.

In spinning, investments in short-staple spindles increased compared with revised lower 2005 figures as did shipments of long-staple spindles while those of open-end rotors fell.

These are the main results of the 29th annual textile machinery shipment survey just released by the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF). The report covers six types of textile machinery, namely spinning, texturing, weaving, large circular knitting, flat knitting and finishing machinery.

The 2006 survey has been compiled in cooperation with some 120 textile machinery manufacturers, representing a comprehensive measure of world output.

Spinning Machinery:
After a downward revision of Chinese shipment figures for 2005 of around 1.2 million short-staple spindles the year 2006 marked a new record totalling 11,740,524, an increase of 18% compared with 2005. Asia was the main recipient of these shipments absorbing 96% or 11.3 million spindles.
