Kvadrat's unique fabric tiles create waves at IWTO

Kvadrat's North Tiles won the Concept and design award at IWTO for its innovative fabric tiles creation. Beaming about the company's success, PR responsible, Thea Hyltoft Svensson informed Fibre2fashion, “North Tiles will go on a tour and be exhibited in Kvadrat's different European showrooms. We have already participated at Interieur Fair 2006, Copenhagen international Furniture Fair 2007."
North Tiles have recently been added to the permanent design collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris. To celebrate the Centre's 30th anniversary, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have created a new North Tiles wall at the Airs de Paris exhibition.
"Our company is exhibiting the North Tiles in airs de Paris exhibition at the Centre Pompidou which runs from April 25 to August 15 in Paris.”
She explained, “The North Tiles was designed by the French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, and were originally created for Kvadrat's showroom in Stockholm which opened in February 2006. The two designers were given creative freedom in solving the assignment - to furnish the Kvadrat showroom in Stockholm, the only stipulation being that presentation of the curtain and upholstery fabrics had to be planned into the design.”
The fabrics used for the collections are Divina, a full-cloth product, which means that it is manufactured by weaving the yarn in a coarse linen hose casing and subjected to mechanical processing using very high temperatures.
Another material is the Divina Melange, textile characterized by its lack of texture and nap and consequently the fabric accentuates the dimensions of the furniture, giving prominence to the colours.
Lastly, the Tempo, which is a new stretchable upholstery fabric in light gauge of Trevira. The fabric's easily stretchable quality makes it a fitting choice for upholstering contemporary, organically shaped furniture.
Svensson said that apart from promoting North Tiles through website, fairs and advertisements, no special campaigns have been planned yet.
She hoped that the market for fabric tiles would grow and they will get enough opportunities in international arena.
The PR responsible declined to disclose names and details of their clients but said that North Tiles traded in contract projects.
