Bureaucracy, chief reason for unused funds

Textile industry has been concerned about the unused allocated funds, recently. The industry has been urging the Government to take this matter seriously.

A reliable source from Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), requesting anonymity, confirmed to Fibre2fashion, “Government had allocated Tk200 million for the sector for 2006-2007 fiscal year. Unfortunately, the complete amount is still unused.”

As for reasons behind this, the insider said, “Current Bureaucratic system is probably the major thorn in the process.”

The source declined to propose measures that the Government and industry could and should take to make most productive use of the funds.

He did not comment on steps taken by BGMEA in this regard, either.
