Schoeller's c_change wins Avantex Innovation 2007

An independent jury awarded Schoeller Switzerland's water and windproof membrane technology c_change an Innovation Prize at Techtextil/Avantex performance and technical textiles show in Frankfurt, Germany this week. c_change is capable of independent flexible adaptation of its moisture vapor permeability.
Clothing using fabric with c_change membrane distinguishes itself primarily through its high level of wind and waterproofing. c_change uniquely adapts to the prevailing temperature and physical activity, keeping the temperature close to the body always a pleasant one. The wearer feels just as comfortable in the wind and waterproof clothing during aerobic activities or hot or cold temperatures.
c_change is a water and windproof membrane technology which is capable of independent flexible adaptation of its moisture vapor permeability. In doing so, it reacts in a way similar to that of a pine cone which opens and closes in response to different weather conditions.
As soon as the ambient temperature rises, or greater moisture is produced as a result of body heat, the polymer structure of the membrane opens and allows excess moisture to escape to the outside air. As soon as the body produces less heat energy and therefore less moisture, the membrane structure contracts again. Here body heat is stored and protection from chilling and shivering built up. In addition, c_change offers moisture vapor permeability at the highest level.
"This flexible adaptability based on a clever use of material properties has made it possible to improve the comfort of wear of membrane clothing in changing climates“, is how jury member Jan Laperre, Deputy director-general Centexbel, explains the decision.
