Coinciding with Emirates Airline's launch of non-stop services to Venice from 1st July, Emirates SkyCargo will also be opening doors for trade between the southern European gateway and Dubai.
Operating on an Airbus A330-200, the route will offer 13 tones of bellyhold capacity and will initially run five-times-a-week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Frequencies will increase to a daily service from 1st September 2007.
Following a year of solid performance for Emirates SkyCargo where the carrier's Rome offices reported 18% growth in 2007 over 2006, Venice is also expected to duplicate this success. Venice's Airport serves one of the largest economic regions in the country.
Venice Airport is Italy's fourth largest, handling nearly half of the country's total freight traffic. In this important commercial region, 43.7 per cent of freight is shipped by air.
In addition, the city provides excellent access to intermodal transportation channels and, with the opening of the EU to include Eastern Europe, Venice now sits in a strong strategic position for managing trade from Italy's North-East and from neighbouring countries Austria, Slovenia and Croatia.
Ram Menen, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President Cargo said: “Venice is an important commercial and industrial centre for Italy and represents great potential for trade. We are confident that the route will be successful as it will provide capacity vital to Italian industries.”
