Govt to levy import tax on textile items via mail delivery

Government has decided to introduce a new policy, from August 1, 2007, that goods delivered via mail or carried by travellers, will be levied 20 percent import tax especially on textile goods and raw materials.
The raw materials, synthetic fibre, textile products and knitted items made of cotton, hemp, wool, real silk, and rayon would come under this category.
Clothings like outerwear, innerwear, shirts, T-shirts has also been included in this class.
All kinds of bedding like blanket, quilt, fashion accessories including necktie, cap, glove, socks, home furnishing items comprise of towels, curtain, and other goods made of cotton, hemp, wool, silk and other materials coming from outside China will be taxed.
