The Textile Museum has news of a major initiative to begin in early 2008. The Museum plans to open a second site, dedicated to exhibitions and educational activities, located in downtown Washington, D.C. in close proximity to the National Mall.
This new 23,400-square-foot venue, located at 421 7th Street, NW, almost doubles the Museum's space overall, making possible the presentation of larger and more varied temporary exhibitions as well as public programs, enhanced visitor services and an expanded shop. The new facility is scheduled to open in early 2008.
The current location at S Street will remain open to the public. Plans call for the exhibition space at S Street to feature rotations from the Museum's permanent collections as well as study collections available for viewing by the visitor. Public access to the Museum's renowned Arthur D. Jenkins Library will continue to be offered at S Street as well.
The Textile Museum will serve audiences in two locations, providing a richer visitor experience and engaging a new and expanded audience.
