As you are aware, Turkey is one of the major markets for exports of Textiles & Clothing from India. During the year 2005, while total imports of textiles and clothing into Turkey amounted to US $ 5220.46 million, imports from India were to the tune of only US $ 271.04 million.
During the year 2005, exports of Cotton Textiles from India to Turkey amounted to US $ 81.98 million out of which Cotton Yarn recording a performance of US $ 37.09 million, followed by Cotton fabrics at US$ 33.51 million and Made Ups at 11.38 million.
In Fabrics category, the major items include Yarn dyed fabrics(US $ 28.89 million) followed by Grey fabrics (US $ 2.75 million), piece dyed fabrics(US $ 0.52 million)and bleached fabrics(US 0.49) In Made Ups catogery, Bed Linen,(knitted or crochetted)(US $ 2.30 million) and Sewing thread (US $ 1.48 million), sacks & bags (US $ 0.44 million).
Imports of finished products from Turkey to EU have been increasing substantially thereby creating greater demand for imported yarn and fabrics in Turkey for conversion and re-export. As a member of European Customs Union, Turkey enjoys Duty Free access of its products within Europe.
Thus, there is a good scope to increase exports of textiles & clothing from India to Turkey.
India's export of Cotton Textile to Turkey : During the period April-November 2006, India exported 7.57 Mn Kgs of Yarn, 10.79 Mn Kgs of Fabrics and 2.32 Mn Kgs of Made-ups to Turkey, valued at Rs 1048.42 Mn; Rs 1115.58 Mn and Rs 360.60 Mn respectively, which indicates a huge potential in this market.
