The first goal of AATCC's new Fiber Identification & Analysis Proficiency Testing Program is to help individual labs to evaluate and improve their fiber analysis techniques. Correctly identifying the fibers you buy, sell, or process can help you save money and avoid legal problems. So, how does your lab's fiber analysis compare to others' around the world? You can find out by participating in the proficiency program this August.
As textile fibers increase in number and complexity, identification methods must be improved as well. The second goal of this program is to help the textile industry as a whole to improve the reliability, relevance, and reproducibility of fiber analysis through the use of AATCC's qualitative and quantitative test methods.
Fiber Identification & Analysis Proficiency Testing Program: Participants will determine the components and ratios of a fiber blend using AATCC TM20A, Fiber Analysis: Quantitative. This method includes mechanical, chemical, and microscopical methods of blend determination.
Fiber, yarn, or fabric specimens of known fiber blends will be sent from the AATCC Technical Center to participating laboratories, along with instructions and report forms. Those laboratories will test the provided specimens and return their completed report forms to AATCC.
AATCC will provide each lab an anonymous code, compile the data, and create a summary report. Only participating laboratories will receive the summary report.
