Planalytics Flashweather is a weekly report designed to provide an historical view of weather's influence on the overall retail industry for the prior week.

This report is a general indicator for the retail industry and will not always align with your business. It can, however, be customized to analyze how weather can directly affect consumer demand for your products and services and to analyze sales results, store traffic trends, labor schedules and much more.

Heat Wave Replaced by Cooling Trend in the East; Storms Continue in the Southern Plains; "Sparkling Week" This Week:

Week-end Review (30 June - 1 July): The Northeast and Great Lakes received a welcome relief from the heat and humidity by late week as temperatures cooled to 4-12 degrees below normal over the weekend. The coolest readings were in the Great Lakes and into eastern Canada.

Severe thunderstorms moved offshore and extremely pleasant summer conditions settled into the region. The cold front settled over the Southeast bringing rain showers, thunderstorms, and near normal sultry summer weather. The far west and Northwest Pacific and Canada remained cool and continued a normal early summer drying trend.

Meanwhile, the inter-mountain west and high plains remained dry and warmed considerably into the 90s and low 100s further south. Flooding and cloudy skies with cooler temperatures continued to plague the Southern and Central Plains over the weekend.

Last Week (Week-ending 30 June 2007): Dangerous heat and humidity gripped most of North America through mid week with dangerous heat index readings (>100 degrees) while Canada remained seasonably cool. Strong severe thunderstorms preceded a cooler airmass after mid-week through the East and into the Southeast where it stalled over the weekend.
