Government of Punjab has given its approval nod for setting up Textile Park in a commodity-specific SEZ to be established near Ludhiana.
Sources revealed that Government is contemplating a joint venture with either Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation Limited (PSIDC) or Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation (PSIEC).
The Government is considering using its own 250 acre land required to set up the commodity-specific SEZ.
In this regard, authorities had a meeting leading industrialists of the state.
Punjab has 74 spinning with two-lakh-spindle capacity against the national capacity of 300 lakh.
The Government is concerned over rise of unemployment among local youth and is mulling to acquire textile industry's support by setting up of centres of excellence for core industries like textile, light equipment, chemical among others.
