Textile sector registers slighter down growth during Q1 2007

This progress rectifies the results of the whole quarter to a minus of 2.3%. The textile production enhanced steadily and gained 4.6% during the first quarter of 2007 as well as 3.3% during March in comparison to the values of the previous year.
The number of employees in Germany has decreased by 2.4% in March 2007. The textile industry was the main contributor to this development reducing the number of its employees by 3.1% in March as well as 3.2% in the course of the first three months of this year. In apparel the number has only been diminished marginally by 1% respectively 0.6%.
Because of a new law which is supposed to relieve the medium-sized businesses and which has been released on 01-01-07, only companies with at least 50 employees are still reporting. Therefore, these figures do not represent the total line of business anymore.
Producer's prices have only slightly risen by 0.2% for textiles and 0.3% for apparel in March 2007. The figures for imports and exports grew by 0.1% respectively 14.5% during the reported month adjusting the preliminary import-surplus to 6.0% for the first quarter of 2007.
