This is carried out in line with the European standard EN ISO 10993-10 “Biological evaluation of medical devices – Part 10: Tests for irritation and allergies”. Correspondingly, the textile samples are removed from the volunteers after two days and the skin reactions triggered by the textile are dermatologically evaluated after 48 and 72 hours.
The results of the research project prove once again how important realistic wear situations are between textiles and the skin in order to obtain scientifically founded information on the reaction of the human skin to textiles.
Even within the current status of the project, the companies involved are already benefiting from the dermatological wear tests at the Hohenstein In-stitutes, for example, to further develop optimised clothing worn close to the skin for special fields of application (e.g. neurodermatitis and psoriasis, sur-gical clothing, avoidance of complaints).
We would like to thank the Research Association of the German Textile In-dustry for its financial support of the research project (AiF-no.: 14655), which was implemented using funds from the Federal Ministry for Economy and Technology (BMWi) provided through a grant from the Association of Indus-trial Research Associations (AiF).
