Woolmark releases colour & fibre trends for S/S 2009

Visions of Nature:
Ornamental signs capture the essence of character, lightweight yet meaningful and highly valuable. Simplistic qualities, classic and tranquil design aspects does not mean dull or predictable. Rarefied effects, decorative and structural rhythms, slightly stirred surfaces. Fresh but close weaves in natural fibres like cool wool, wool blends with linen, raffia, bamboo, bourrtte and Honan silk. A majority of neutrals is inspired by the world of fine arts, punctuated by few unusually bold tints.
Delicate Vagaries:
A sweet and sour romantic spirit, gentle and poetically stylized always intense and never melancholic. The colours, look and feel of porcelain, a taste for pureness and decoration that is both Japanese and Nordic. Miniature patterns and designs appear on fine regular weaves, decorative open work and lace. Carded wool, cotton, silk, matt viscose and touched of lurex. A very personal chaotic order: irregular colourations, fine and close weaves or laces. Innovative yet balanced matches between eccentric pastels and dark neutrals.
Techno Rainbows:
Energy, speed and a “feel good” attitude for an absolutely contemporary reconciliation of opposites, carefully studied and perfectly functional. Micro and macro, precise and blurred, monochrome and multicolour in dynamic and fun effects and on highly processed surfaces. Viscose, silk satin, superfine wools and blends using stretch fibres, all in full compact weaves. Dense bright artificial tones, often eased by neon white and orangey neutrals.
Metallic Alchemies:
Life is a complex and logic defying system, including hybrids of all kinds. Iridescences, a touch of androgyny, mesmerizing winding motifs of scientific or historical derivation, hyper modern tailored constructions and weightlessness in every sense.
Designs are effortless, weightless combining both closed and open weave structures and knits. Modern androgynous tailored constructions are neat and flawless using silk and worsted wool in superfine qualities, cupro fibre, metallic filaments and ultra thin leather. Significant yet sophisticated contrasts for rich golden greens, tender flesh tones, glittering platinum and antique gold.
Spring-Summer 2009 is all about progression and development, taking sustainable and ethical products into the future. There is still a strong desire for simplicity and neutrality although for this season it takes on a different guise, where colour plays a prominent role.
