CII past president, N Kumar presented the following six specific views that Indian industry believes is necessary for enhancing competitiveness leading to greater engagement between India and the rest of the world markets including the ASEAN.

• First, Innovation is the most important aspect for building competitiveness.
• Second, Integration to build greater linkages through investments and people to people contacts
• Third, Skill Development to encourage corporations to invest in India and use the country as a base for goods and services.
• Fourth, Sustainable Development
• Fifth, Research and Development
• Sixth, Partnerships for growth

With sustained engagement over the years and as a part of India's Look East Policy, the ASEAN region has become a preferred destination for Indian enterprises, and many corporates have already set up operations in the region. Their interests extend to almost all sectors in manufacturing and services

The CII India luncheon in Singapore was aimed at promoting mutual investment, and spurring enterprises to focus on opportunities and prospects offered within India & ASEAN region.
