The Consumexpo-2008 held in Moscow, from January 15 to 19 saw voluntary participation by ten Bangladeshi companies under the supervision of Export Promotion Bureau which ultimately turned out to be a fruitful venture for the country.
It was during this exhibition that Bangladesh, participating for the second time in a row, earned foreign orders worth US $37, 50,000 of which $4, 70,000 were received as spot orders.
A variety of quality products ranging from jute goods, handicraft, leather products, and ceramics to home textile, RMG, Knitwear, and sweaters were displayed by Bangladesh at the fair. It goes without a mention that the event was a success since more than 655 business entrepreneurs from around 29 countries made their presence felt at the occasion.
A huge number of visitors took interest in Bangladeshi products which also drew the attention of a good number of Russian and other international buyers. The export orders were a result of a series of meetings, discussions and exchange of views made between representatives of Bangladeshi companies and potential foreign buyers.
The main purpose behind participation in the fair was to promote local products on an international level and to explore opportunities to expand Bangladesh's exports in newer markets. Further, a significant consequence of the expo may be the slimming down of trade gap between Russia and Bangladesh.
