Pakistani jute industry is making its presence felt in international market. The industry has an image of providing good service and quality. So, market experts believe that, they can achieve the target of nearly US $15 million exports in 2007-08.
Although, the country faces problems in terms of raw material, it still manages to produce more than 2,00,000 bales yearly. The sector fulfills the demand of government food departments like PASSCO and Panjab Food, by providing them eco-friendly packaging.
However, at present jute sector is facing tough times. It's consistently having problem in shipping raw material from Bangladesh. The protocol signed between both Governments states that, only the two country flags carriers can transport cargo on this route.
Further adding to the woes, there is shortage of power and gas in the country. As a result, production units are unable to provide manufactured goods on time, resulting in huge losses.
