Exports fetch high revenue for nation

According to the data released by National Statistics Bureau (BNS), Moldova exported goods worth nearly US $1.342 billion in 2007, an increase of 27.6 percent compared to 2006.

Exports of products to European Union (EU) rose to almost 26.3 percent, to Commonwealth of Independent States' (CIS) around 30 percent and to other countries it increased to approximately 25 percent against that of 2006.

Textile products, footwear and machinery were among top items as they contributed nearly 80 percent to the total export earnings. Some of the countries which had maximum trade with Moldova include Russia, Romania, Italy, Germany, Poland and United Kingdom.

The nation even witnessed a surge of 37 percent in imports, nearly $3.690 billion worth goods came in Moldova. EU's contribution in it was almost 38 percent, from CIS nearly 31 percent last year.

Experts believe that 2008 will see a boost of approximately 15 percent in imports as well as in exports, and this in turn will bring a rosy future for the nation.
