KVIC succeeds in generating employment under REGP

A day long workshop on product development, design, intervention, packaging and rural industries service centre was organized by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) at Institute of Management, Public Administration and Rural Development (IMPA) in Srinagar on March 26.

During the event it was revealed that KVIC in Kashmir under the refuge of Rural Employment Generation Program (REGP), have established 2.62 lakh units generating jobs for nearly 39.68 lakh people during the ongoing fiscal year.

In the previous year, about 26,087 projects were financed generating employment for 5.95 lakh people. Statistics show that a total of Rs7,985 crore were invested in these projects for giving such commendable outcomes.

Through this program, the organization aims to strengthen rural cluster by providing infrastructure, raw material, support, skill upgradation, training, quality control and testing facilities, design and product development to the local units.

Till the end of December 2007, as many as 27,686 income generating units were set up under priority and non-priority sector with an average financial investment of Rs829.44 crore in Srinagar district.

Of these, about 5,961 units have been established under priority sector with a financial assistance of Rs181.99 crore while 21,725 units come under the non-priority sector.

Moreover, the Government has also set up 180 units under agricultural sector and 5,199 units under trade and services industry amounting to an investment of Rs148 crore in total.
