Retail sales for durables rise in Feb

Turnover in total retail trade in February 2008 showed an increase of 4.6 percent compared to February 2007.

Compared to February 2007, retail sales for consumables (for example, department stores and specialised grocery stores) increased by 2.1 percent. Retail sales for durables (for example, clothing stores, stores for furniture, stores for second-hand goods, mail order houses) increased by 6.7 percent.

Seasonally adjusted, the monthly index figure for total retail trade is 116.3 (2005=100), which is an increase of 1.7 percent since January 2008. Compared to the previous three months (August – October), the last three months (November – January) saw a seasonally adjusted decrease in retail trade of 0.2 percent.

Turnover in total retail trade in January 2008 rose 3.2 percent compared to January 2007. The monthly index figure for January, seasonally adjusted, is 114.4.

The figures refer to fixed prices, taking into account the number of shopping days. The comparisons refer to the corresponding period in the previous year, unless otherwise stated.
