Perspectives of Modern Weaving Technology- Theme of TAI seminar

The Textile Association (India), Mumbai Unit organized a one day Seminar on "Perspectives of Modern Weaving Technology in the Emerging Market” in Vapi on March 15, 2008.

Mr. V. C. Gupte, Chairman, TAI, Mumbai Unit welcomed the Chief Guest Mr. Rajendra Agarwal, Managing Director, Donear Industries Ltd., Guest of Honour Mr. Om Prakash Tikiya, Director, G. C. Group of Industries, speakers and delegates.

Mr. Haresh B. Parekh, Jt. Hon. Gen. Secretary, TAI and Convener of the seminar gave the brief of the event. He spoke about the various problems faced by the textile Industry like high-cost of production, high power tariff, attitude of low productivity by the labours and lack of marketing strategies, etc.

He also said that unless regular and clean power supply with minimum tariff is proved, it is very difficult to modernize the textile industry. The Government had announced various schemes for the development of the textile industry and we should take maximum advantage of these schemes by forming cluster at various levels.

Mr. Om Prakash Tikiya, Director, G. C. Group of Industries while addressing the delegates said that Weaving Industry in Gujarat is facing many problems like entry tax on yarn imposed by the Gujarat government, additional high deposit amounts charged by electricity board.

The electricity rate to weaving sector in Gujarat are very high as compared to the Silvassa & Daman rates and also subsides rates offered in Maharashtra. He appealed The Textile Association (India) and Textile Commissioner's Office to take up this issue with respective government authorities.
