Ferocious fire gnawed at a garment factory in Diego Martin on the morning of April 10 and left nearly 75 people without work for at least the next one or two months.
The fire started at around 7.30 am in the cutting room of the 10,000 square foot Elite Ltd. Fire services received a call of urgency at about 8 am, Kenrick Bethelmy, Assostant Chief Fire Officer told the media.
Employees tried to put off the fire in its initial stage, but it was beyond their capacity to handle. Finally the firemen at work brought the situation under control in about two hours despite trouble faced due to shortage of water.
No injuries have been reported so far but an estimated loss of US $3 million has been recorded with damage to the building presumed at around $250,000.
