The province of East Azarbaijan last year exported carpets worth nearly US $200 million, which has brought high hopes for weavers of the region.
There are more than 3,00,000 craftsmen in the region who are involved in weaving carpets. However, recently there has been a fall in the number of artisans, due to various reasons including lack of resources.
The authorities have started taking measures to revive this sector, by paying attention to the problems craftsmen are facing.
The organization recently held Persian Carpet Specialized Exhibition in Denmark to give domestic artisans international experience, to mould their patterns according to global demand.
According to Commerce Organization, prominent buyers include US, Japan, Gulf States, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and European countries.
The fine detailing and intricate patterns on Iranian carpets give them a wider global market to earn foreign currency through exports.
