Govt seeks promoting bilateral trade with Pakistan

Mr Amjad Ali, a local businessman who served as President of the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers Association, Chairman of the Tourism Development Company and the Business Development Company, and member of the Defence Force Commissions Board, was recently appointed as honorary Consul General of Pakistan in Trinidad and Tobago (TT).
The designation bestowed upon Mr Amjad Ali requires him to promote bilateral trade opportunities between the two countries. The country looks forward to a flourishing trade with Pakistan which produces some of the most popular brands of sporting goods used across the world and posted a growth of 7 percent for 2007.
Moreover, textiles, leather goods, chemicals and carpets and rugs also form some of the major export commodities of Pakistan.
In the year 2005-06, exports from Pakistan to Trinidad amounted to US$ 792,000 while it imported goods worth $433,000 from Trinidad & Tobago.
Besides, presently, Mr Ali is serving as an executive director at Advance Foam Limited and Manufacturer of Serta mattresses.
Mr Ali's newest designation has been approved by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago.
