The historic Lockmore Cotton Mill in South Carolina, which was undergoing US $5.7 million rehabilitation, was badly bruised by the billowing flames of fire that took the building in its clutches on Thursday night.

Landmark Group of Winston Salem owned the building and wished to convert it into 40 affordable apartments for the elderly.

Those who witnessed the gradual scorching of this huge structure reported that the fire started off from the right side of the main building.

Although, fire tenders from York, Clover and Newport immediately responded to the call for help, the blaze seemed to have completely consumed the building before any preventive measures could be taken.

The only part that could be saved was a small portion of the right wing of the building which was protected by a fire wall.

No injuries have been reported so far as all the workers left the building early in the evening. Moreover, there is no information about the origin of fire but investigation for the purpose was to start today itself.
