ICAC 67th Plenary Meeting to be in November

Registration for the 67th Plenary Meeting of the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) since 1939 is underway. Notices of the meeting and invitations have been sent to all governments, cotton industry associations and previous plenary meeting participants. Registration is available on-line at ICAC website or by contacting the Secretariat for a registration booklet.

The meeting will be held during November 17-21, 2008 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Mr. Célestin T. Tiendrebeogo, General Director, Société Burkinabè des Fibres Textiles (SOFITEX), serves as the chair of the Organizing Committee.

Other members of the Organizing Committee include representatives of cotton companies in Burkina Faso, a representative of the textile sector, and representatives from the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The venue for the meeting is an international conference center. A five-star hotel sits next to the conference center and will serve as the primary hotel for the meeting. There are additional hotels nearby. An impressive schedule of social events featuring African culture is planned.

The theme of the 67th Plenary Meeting is Technologies for Cotton Development. The theme will provide opportunities to showcase the role of technologies in raising yields, reducing input costs and improving the competitiveness of the cotton industry. The format of each session will be designed to optimize time for discussion.
