New packing machines are enabling further efficiencies to be made and producers can help reduce costs even further by improving the way they pack their wool and by looking at ways of co-ordinating deliveries of wool with hauliers and neighbouring farmers.
“There's always been volatility in the wool price which means it can fluctuate substantially during a season. Outside buyers stop collecting wool when they can't make a profit from it but the Wool Board continues to collect and pay for wool at a published price.
“By continuing to support the BWMB, producers will always receive the actual market value of their wool” said Mr Langrish.
He also commented that he was pleased with the Conclusions and Recommendations of the recent DEFRA Review of the Board, which concluded: “The Board continues to provide an effective mechanism for the marketing of wool in the UK.”
