The new Chinese policy forbidding the use of plastic bags has brought fortunes to many non-woven cloth producing companies and Qingdao Xingyiyuan Non-woven Cloth Co, Ltd is just one of them.
The company began production of non-woven cloth in 2000 but only had a handful of clients purchasing it for many years. However, from the time that the Government notification has been made public regarding the implementation of the policy from June 2008, Qingdao Xingyiyuan has received a bulk of orders from mostly local supermarkets.
A study has shown that supermarkets in China have started hunting for bio-degradable and recycling fabrics for replacing the plastic bags.
While cotton & paper bags are vulnerable to destruction by water, those made from non-woven cloth are waterproof and can be used for several times before disposal causing only 10 percent of pollution made by plastic bags.
The policy has left such a deep impact that even plastic product manufacturers are switching to the production of non-woven cloth and related products.
