TESTEX completes a further stage in its expansion programme

TESTEX has completed a further stage in its programme of expansion and structural alteration with a view to systematically maintaining the organisation's position at the cutting edge of technology. At the same time it has brought into operation its first “skin model”. The skin model is the core testing instrument for precise and repeatable definition of the physiological comfort of textile fabrics.
In the course of the latest stage in the programme of expansion and structural alteration, which was completed in only five months, the laboratory and office premises were enlarged by 200 m2 and the textile testing laboratory was restructured. The organisation, which has registered steady growth in demand for its services for some years, has thus created ur-gently needed space to expand capacity.
Since the physiological comfort of special clothing is becoming an increasingly important sell-ing point, manufacturers of personal protective equipment (PPE), weatherproof clothing and sports wear in particular are anxious to quantify “comfort” as a sales factor by means of a test. In complex material structures such as sleeping bags thermo-physiological comfort plays a role where the emphasis is on controlling body temperature in relation to the ambient climate.
TESTEX has now responded to this demand and made its largest single investment by purchasing a high-tech testing instrument for measuring the physiological characteristics of clothing. The instrument is known as the «skin model» and enables both the breathing properties (“perspiration-friendliness”, expressed as water vapour resistance) and thermal re-tention properties (“insulation-effectiveness”, expressed as thermal resistance) of textiles to be established. The test (sweating guarded-hotplate test) is standardised and is described in EN 31092 and ISO 11092.
TESTEX aims to continue to be a trustworthy and innovative partner for all stages of the tex-tile and garment industry in future and is prepared to adapt its offering of testing facilities successively to meet the market's needs.
