Intl carpet expo commences in Ashgabad

The Sergi Koshgi Centre of Ashgabad is flooded with colourful carpets from various parts of the world these days, as International Carpet Exhibition is going here. The expo is organized by Turkmenhaly, Turkmen carpets state owned joint-stock company in order to celebrate National Day that is scheduled on last Sunday of May.
The state-owned enterprises along with global participants are displaying their special hand made rugs in Sergi Koshgi. The venue is attracting not only global buyers but also local people who are getting mesmerized by the extensive as well as exclusive range of carpets.
Along with the event, organizers are also holding an international conference, where eminent speakers will discuss about various techniques that have made a significant contribution to the development of handmade carpets so far.
The carpet sector of Turkmenistan has always played a significant role in the economy of the nation. The Government is constantly trying to improve this industry, in order to earn high revenue by exporting carpets to various international markets.
Importance of carpets for the country can be seen from the fact that the National Flag also bears a long hand woven strip on one side, symbolizing unity and cohesion.
