New Govt scheme to provide free yarn for Assamese weavers

At a public meeting held on May 25, to mark the completion of two years, of the present ruling coalition government, Mr Tarun Gogoi, Assam Chief Minister announced a number of new schemes and programs for implementation in the next three years.
One of the most important of these announcements was the creation of one lakh Government jobs for the citizens of the country.
Among a host of other schemes pronounced, Chief Minister Gogoi also emphasized on providing Japis (traditional Assamese field hat) to 0.5 million women rice planters. Additionally, he also voiced Government's desire to cater free yarn to about 1.2 million weavers and blankets to 0.6 million below poverty line families in the period of three years.
Besides, the Chief Minister also declared providing 10 percent hike in the basic salaries of State Government employees as interim relief till recommendations are made by the new pay commission which is to come into effect from June 1.
