According to the latest customs data, China imported about 260 tons of viscose filament in May 2008, showing a substantial reduction of over 176 tons or 40.3 percent from the same time last year. This also marked a fall of 12.4 percent from that of previous month.
Import value reached US $544,600, a year-on-year decline of 43.18 percent, and 5.88 percent less than the previous month.
The average import price of viscose filament in May was around $2094 per ton, slightly down by 4.7 percent from the same time last year, but recording a rise of nearly 7.48 percent from that in April.
In the first five months of 2008, China's total imports of viscose filament reached more than 1257.75 tons, representing a slight decrease of 11.05 percent from the same time last year.
In the period from January to May, accumulated imports of the product amounted to $3.1033 million, a year-on-year increase of 9.32 percent. The average import price during the period stood at about $2520.09 per ton, a hike of 27.72 percent from the same time last year.
