According to the latest Customs statistics, China imported 448,600 tons of PTA (including QTA) in May 2008, representing a substantial reduction of 130,000 tons or 22.47 percent from that in April.
This marks the lowest import level in 2008, registering about year-on-year slide of 20.38 percent.
The average import price during the month stood at US $986 per ton, up $38 or 4.02 percent over the previous month, and recording a year-on-year rise of 9.31 percent.
In the first five months of this year, China's total imports of PTA reached 2.584 million tons, representing a plunge of 17.82 percent from last year.
The average import price in the same period was $904 per ton, a hike of 4.21 percent as compared to same period last year.
