Ethylene prices experience a meteoric rise on July 2

Ethylene, a basic component used for manufacturing a varied range of plastics and synthetic fibres, is experiencing huge demand in the international market. To meet the requirement, various countries throughout the globe, are adding up production facilities and how can China lag behind.

In last five years, ethylene production in China has seen a considerable rise. With the large ethylene production bases in Central and West China, the yearly output of the product, is bound to increase by manifolds by the year 2010.

Ethylene prices showed an ascending trend for almost all the importing countries on July 2. Prices quoted for Far Eastern, European as well as for the United States, experience a steep rise where as for the Asian region stability is observed in comparison to the last week.

Ethylene prices in Asia region:

Ethylene, CFR Northeast Asia, at US $1640-1650 per metric ton.
Ethylene, CFR Southeast Asia, at US $1535-1545 per metric ton.

Ethylene prices in Far East region:

Ethylene, FOB South Korea, at US $1630 per metric ton.
Ethylene, FOB Japan, at US $1630 per metric ton.

Ethylene prices in Europe:

Ethylene, FD Northwest Europe, at Euro 1187.00-1191.00 per metric ton.
Ethylene, CIF Northwest Europe, at US $ 1770.00-1780.00 per metric ton.

Prices in the United States:

Propylene (refining level), at US cent 77.625-77.875 per lb.
Ethylene, at US cent 70.000-70.250 per pound.
