Braskem, a Brazilian petrochemical company, recently announced its plan to make investment in Camacari Petrochemical Complex of Bahia State.
The company anticipates making an investment of US $976.5 million in the complex to be completed by 2012. Construction of a polypropylene plant with an annual capacity of 300,000 tons is the key project that Braskem eyes.
Operations are scheduled to commence in 2012 and the plant will receive a capital of $417 million.
Camacari Petrochemical Complex posted gross revenue of $15 billion in 2007 and accounted for 35 percent of the total exports made by the state of Bahia.
The existing capacity of the complex amounts to 11.5 million tons a year and comprises caraiba, Ford, Bahia Pulp, Deten, Dow Quimica, Continental, Braskem and Bridgestone/Firestone.
